But in our food meeting, I was THERE. "All of it. We'll have all of it" was mentioned a few times.

Over the years, DJ's in general haven't built the best reputation..

Wedding food is a huge part of your day. From canapés to your wedding breakfast, and finally onto your midnight munchies, each serving requires some serious thought..

If you're anything like me, a feeder, you'll probably have thought about the food before even thinking about the wedding..

I'm an engaged man, I sit through all of the supplier meetings, listen along, throw a few ideas into the works but they undoubtedly get shunned by (admittedly) better ideas by my fiancé.

But in our food meeting, I was THERE. "All of it. We'll have all of it" was mentioned a few times.

Anyway..

I'm lucky that on certain weddings to get fed. If you've just booked me for the evening, don't worry, I won't just turn up for food.. But on an all day wedding, many couples are generous enough to add me to the supplier meal list. Normally where me and the photographer light a candle and have a cute date.

It's by no means a requirement! If you'd rather not feed me, I completely get it. Let's face it - you're paying for everyones meal - probably some family members you're not that keen on too.. so don't worry if I'm not the first priority.

But if you do, then great! I'll eat it.. Just for future reference, I have no dietary requirements!

I thought it would be fun to share some of the most memorable meals.

Usually finger food is great - especially whilst working because it means I can pick at it on the go.. Not too heavy, doesn't cause my tummy to expand, and keeps my hands nice and tidy so I can keep setting up or pressing buttons!

If there's time to spare, then sometimes a plated meal is nice! A bit of down time to appreciate the surroundings, chat to other suppliers and have a zen moment before the madness begins.

A lot of the time, it's always one of those situations where they say.. Would you like a burger? That's great, until they tell you there is no bread left.. or no cheese..

Greedy wedding guests..

On the flip side, I was once asked, 'would you like some sausage and mash.' ABSOLUTELY, I responded. In my head, I was thinking: Kids Meal. No problem, it'll fill a gap..

I then see this coming towards me:

Oh my.. That sausage has four curls.. Bolton School Weddings pulled it out of the bag, and catfished me big time, but it went in my favour!!

Wedding Food.. my favourites!

I'm a curvaceous kind of guy, and you don't get this physique without enjoying a bite to eat..

My experience with a small business.

Tuesday 23rd August 2022
"You guessed it.. The big 'C' word. Not the four letter one as some of you filthy readers thought. COVID.."

I suppose a business is always growing? Even if not in sales, it can grow in complexity, maturity, intelligence or even simplicity..

For me anyway, there's always something changing. Whether that's package updates, process simplifying or equipment expanding, there's always something going on.

Since I opened for business in early 2017 (accidentally may I add), it's been a crazy journey with highs and lows of all shapes and sizes. The responsibility of handling significant events is huge, but there's also other factors involved in maintaining standards and managing a company. Registering and recording payments is a big one, which in my opinion is impossible without some form of CRM.

I've used many over the years, but have now settled with Giggio which is designed for performers and entertainers. From there I organise customer profiles, run sales reports, send invoices and store data that ultimately ensures all of our weddings and events happen - without that, I'd be totally lost and I'd recommend it from the rooftops.

The other amazing piece of tech wizadry I use is Zapier which runs behind the scenes automation to link all of the apps and services I use. It automatically generates emails, creates Google Calendar events and updates details without me having to worry about forgetting a piece of information. Another 'must have' to avoid double bookings and save HOURS.

I've found that despite tech advances and upgrading infrastructure, the one thing that I've tried to maintain is my personality and relationship with customers. I never want customers to feel lost, or like they are just a number which can be the case with larger agencies and firms. My name is in the title, and my face is all over this website - and that's exactly what you get if you book: me!

In March 2020 I put my big boy pants on and prepared for the National Wedding Show at Event City in Manchester. At the time, by far the most high profile and daunting event in the calendar. The big leagues..

The show was a huge success. I got loads of interest, and a huge amount of bookings for the following wedding season! What could possibly get in the way of that?

You guessed it.. The big 'C' word. Not the four letter one as some of you filthy readers thought. COVID..

Despite the expected hit of cancellations for birthday parties, I was so humbled to find that the majority of couples who booked with me decided to keep their booking and just re-book me for another date.

So fast forward to today - I'm completing the bookings I took back in 2020, and gathering new customers every day. It's busier than ever before, and business is booming!

It’s also such a strange time to be running a small business. Lockdown propelled us from a sole tradership into a limited company. For every company there’s kind of a middle section where you’re pushing the threshold of being a sole trader, but you’re not quite ready or earning enough to make the transition to limited feasible. I skipped that bit due to the COVID backlog - at the minute I'm working out whether that's a blessing or not!

As affirming and as amazing as my current situation is, creating projections and predictions for the coming years and months is almost impossible. Is it sustainable? Should a drop in interest and sales be expected as the industry levels out, or have I done enough to support the company in terms of infrastructure and marketing to see us through and continue growing? Who knows..

At the moment I’m focusing on now. I’m thankful for all of the customers that have trusted and worked with me to ensure I could make it here. I’m doing what I’ve always done, and am concentrating on providing the best supportive service in the lead up to each wedding and event. I love what I do, and can't wait to keep improving and striving to be the best wedding and entertainment company in the North West!

New Website!

"Hopefully you can get a feel for my personality through reading over my site, and if you notice my dashing looks and curvaceous figure.. well that's just a bonus!"

You're here - and you made it!! You've even delved as deep as the blog, so you must be a little interested..

^There it is! - I wasn't intentionally showcasing or advertising different apple products.. although Tim Cook, if you're reading this, my bank details are somewhere in your receipt portal!

So - Why update?..

Why not? It's not been too long since the last update, but I feel as though this new version offers a more personal, real view on the my services. It's had a whole new re-write, mainly from my personal perspective rather than the 'company' point of view.

I see photographers all over instagram posting interesting wedding content, but also some personal day-to-day stuff about their normal 'non-wedding' life. And I love that. I want to find out more, so I head to their website, and read more about their journey and career, as well as their personal life which genuinely interests me.

Your DJ, as well as your photographer, needs to show their personality. You've got to learn to like eachother, and almost form a friendship to know whether they're the right person for the job.

Hopefully you can get a feel for my personality through reading over my site, and if you notice my dashing looks and curvaceous figure.. well that's just a bonus!

The other reason is weddings.. They don't sit still. The industry is constantly changing and evolving, with new trends and styles and it's up to me to keep up with that - offering new, creative solutions to keep up-to-date..

Your DJ is no longer just a bloke who rocks up with some CD's and some huge speakers. If you book with me, I become your go to for the evening. We'll chat about the most stupid things, and somehow mange to formalise all of the details of your evening, and the day if I'm lucky enough to provide some daytime entertainment. As your day develops, your entertainment becomes the centre of everything - so it's important you trust and get on with the person at the centre!

Hopefully, the new website gives you a little insight into me and my world, and is a nice introduction to how I work along with my packages and services!

"Buckle up, it's about to get super boring!"

This post may be for the more nerdy website visitors... Buckle up, it's about to get super boring!

Anywho, I thought it'd be cool to share some of the stuff I take everywhere. There she is ^ - thing of beauty, I know..

The Rucksack.. It's a cool one, 9 whole pockets! I look like a kid starting high school sometimes - but I swear need it all..

The Rucksack. No cool brand name unfortunately, but it's got loads of pockets. Sometimes I look like I'm off for my first day at school, but I really do need everything in there...

There's always a MacBook or three.. Call me obsessive, but I'd be lost without my Mac, and if it fails - there's a second and third backup ready to go. It's never actually happened, but I am a bit of a tech hoarder and can't throw anything away, especially if it has an apple logo.

iPad - pretty much does everything the Mac does.. but it's touch screen so I can write on it with my cool overly-long white pencil and look like an esteemed business man. Also useful to put on a stand to play background music, or display some musical dots for me to read.

My charger bag.. Bit of a boring one, but there's nothing worse than running out of juice on any device. It's always there to lend too - I'm not selfish.

External Hard-Drives.. In not one, but two protective cases to make sure that my music and documents are safe. I also keep one at home, and one at the studio. In case of fire, everything is ruined, but my musical library is safe - that's all that matters.. right?!

Batteries. I'm like a walking Duracel vending machine. 9 volters for microphones, AA's, AAA's, the big round boys.

Zoom HN4 Pro.. It's not used often, but I love recording stuff. Whether it's a cool sound I could sample and layer as an effect over some tracks, or simply just your speeches or the dancefloor going wild - it's a portable four track recorder which is perfect when on the move.

Behringer Xenyx 502.. It's a super tiny mixing desk. No bells and whistles. Just simple plug and play, small enough to fit in the back of my bag. Makes me look like a boss when the big fancy desk blows up and nobody knows what to do - happened more than once! I reckon the power cable is actually bigger than the desk - great buy..

Lumix G80 - decent mirrorless camera to capture stuff. Reactions, people, cool cakes, random dance moves.. 4K filming quality, battery lasts forever and it's got loads of cool camera stuff that I don't really understand!

ACS moulded earplugs. Best thing I ever bought - as a member of the MU with discount.. Mental. I put them in, and it's like you just turned the TV down from ten to three. And then someone starts talking, and you can hear them clear as day. The best part is that when I get home from a gig, there is no ringing in my ears. Protect the listeners people, you only get one set!

Cable testers, guitar tuners, pens, sharpies, duct tape, masking tape, insulation tape (lots of tape), a DI box, deodorant, WD40 (random) take pride of place in the front pocket - the expensive seats!

Other than a can of diet coke and some probably out of date coffee that also lives in there, that's pretty much it. You hundreds of readers out there are all probably thinking one thing.. must be pretty heavy? And you're right.. It's awful, but I still wouldn't go anywhere without it!

FAQ's

What's the best way to check availability?

That's simple: just get in touch! I refuse to take any money, or process a booking before I've had the opportunity to introduce myself and my services personally, whether that be via phone, email or even an in-person meeting. I also run our sister company, The Groove which allows you to book other DJ's and entertainers through our system.

Do you take a deposit?

Yes. For normal package bookings, a simple £50 deposit is taken, as well as a signature on our contract to let us know that you're committed to the booking as much as we are! For more complex high value bookings, a 25% deposit may be requested to secure my attendance. You will be made aware of this from the outset, and the online payment methods are really simple to use.

How far do you travel?

I'm happy to travel where ever my work takes me. Unless included in your package, a standard fuel charge is added to any booking at 55p per mile, as well as £10.80 per hour (pro-rata) for journeys longer than 1 hour.

Are you insured?

Yes! I carry all of the relevant documentation that your venue may request. This includes PAT Test Certificates, Public Liability Insurance up to the value of £2 Million, as well as Personal Professional Indemnity Insurance.

How would you define your 'style' or approach to DJ'ing?

Firstly, we're really laid back, and you'll get to learn that about me - hopefully it'll put your mind at ease. It's all about you, and I'm happy to adapt my style to suit your day and your personality. I'm not overly talkative on the microphone, and it's all about the music - nobody really cares who sang the last song or what year it came out!

Can I add things to my package at a later date?

Of course. Your initial deposit will remain valid, and secures your whole booking with me. If you choose to add any additional add-ons, I'll simply send out a new contract for you to sign with the amended information.
